Our Customer Value Proposition addresses Quality, Safety, Reliability, and Sustainability
High Quality
Village Farms’ trained employees select produce for harvest when it is at a uniform size, color, and stage of vine-ripeness to ensure high quality produce. We never wax, coat, or artificially-ripen our produce. We hand-pick and –pack the produce in “display ready” packaging, ensuring retail customers have a full view of the product on the supermarket shelf. Village Farms has always packed in bleach-free corrugated boxes that are minimally dyed. These boxes are recyclable.
Food Safety
Village Farms leads the industry in
food safety because it has adopted Governmental non-mandatory Good Agricultural Practices. This program is modeled after the U.S. Food & Drug Administration’s Good Manufacturing Practices program, using the Primus Labs® format and third party auditors. All Village Farms packing facilities consistently undergo comprehensive food safety audits by Primus Labs®. The audit results are posted within the Primus Labs website at
www.primuslabs.com.
Reliability
Village Farms greenhouses are strategically managed so we can guarantee a year-round supply of produce from our facilities. We do not buy and re-sell produce from other growers; all the produce we sell is from our own greenhouses and exclusive partner greenhouses. This reliability ensures consistently excellent produce, trusted brand equity, strong customer relationships, faster delivery times, and improved operating efficiency.
Logistics and distribution capability are key factors in ensuring fresh high quality produce to meet consumer demands. Customers enjoy fresher produce as a result of our geographically-dispersed production facilities (British Columbia, Texas, and Pennsylvania, and our exclusive partners in Mexico) and distribution centers strategically located throughout the United States and Canada (Vancouver, BC, Seattle, WA, Dallas, TX, Tampa, FL, Chicago, IL, Philadelphia, PA, and Buffalo, NY).
Environmental Sustainability
At Village Farms, we grow our produce in indoor gardens. This gives our growing process several environmental advantages. We use an Integrated Pest Management System (IPM) to naturally control insects. We nourish our plants with nutrient-rich water that we continually recycle and sterilize. Thus, our
sustainable growing practice uses less water than field growing and does not erode the soil. Finally, we use an inert growing medium, not dirt, which means that our plants don’t have contact with soil-born diseases, and pests or animal waste fertilizers.
